No, and the reason is heat. An open pizza cooks by radiation from above and conduction from the deck, which is why the top chars and the base crisps. Seal the dough and the inside becomes a steam oven: the filling poaches in its own moisture rather than roasting.
That changes what you can put in it. Wet mozzarella and raw vegetables that would be fine spread across an 18-inch round will flood a sealed pocket, which is why calzones traditionally use ricotta — a drier cheese that holds its shape when it heats.
So the shapes are related and the cooking isn’t. Calling a calzone a folded pizza is like calling a dumpling a folded sandwich. You can see how you got there, and you are still wrong.
